Today, assistive technology has been evolved into very complex systems that help challenged people complete simple everyday tasks. There used to never be any form of technology to assist the blind, deaf, or mentally challenged but now there is many forms of assistive technology.
The One-Armed Swimmer http://legallyblunt.wordpress.com/2009/03/23/the-one-armed-swimmer-in-the-pool/was one article I read, it told of a woman who lost her right arm in a car accident and still swam very well. It was inspirational because she used to be a competitive swimmer and she still wants to swim. A form of assistive technology she could use is a electronic arm. Or a “magic arm” that was produced for mentally challenged children.
ON YOUR OWN; One-Legged Runner Tries to Inspire Others- http://www.nytimes.com/1990/07/16/sports/on-your-own-one-legged-runner-tries-to-inspire-others.html This article that is about a Olympic runner who runs the same races as a person with two legs but does it on one. Assistive Technology that a person with one leg can use is a prosthetic leg. They have been advanced over the years to give people full range of motion with their artificial legs. This was another article I read that told of a 17 year old girl named Tess that cannot walk. So a form of assistive technology she could use is an advanced wheelchair to help her get to place to place and complete everyday tasks.
